Coffee is our world, and something that brings people together. We’re devoted to the science, sustainability and the surprise that amazing coffee can bring. We make next level coffee which gathers people together around a little daily luxury.
We understand the value of coffee in the business as more than just a hot drink – we feel that coffee is a connector – something that brings people together, gives them a reason to socialise, to share their ideas, and offers the chance for people to experience the warmth of our hospitality.
The coffee bar also acts as a connection to the farms and origins that our coffee comes from. Our coffee staff are trained and educated about the journey and story of the coffee, which gives them to have the confidence to pass the story along to those enjoying it in their cup.
SUSTAINABLE COFFEE
An environmentally and ethically conscious coffee programme.
In Ireland we are using a directly-traded, speciality coffee as our house bean. Direct trade ensures the highest possible share of the finances goes directly to the origin, and specifically to the co-operative, that we work with to provide us the coffee. Our house coffee is the delicious Divino Niño from Colombia, roasted by highly regarded local supplier, Roasted Brown.
ENERGY SAVING MACHINERY
As part of our sustainability drive, we focus on using the most energy efficient and progressive coffee machines we can get – so in the majority of our sites we have upgraded to Eagle One machines by Victoria Arduino. These are hand-built espresso machines from Italy, and research has shown them to be 20% more energy efficient than equivalent machines in the market. We are also phasing out single use coffee cups, moving to a reusable cup programme, as well as installing more state-of-the-art equipment to reduce our levels of waste and inefficiencies.
BARISTA ACADEMY
Sustainability in our coffee programme also means sustainability of our human resources. With our emphasis on a development culture, we aim to bring people, through the Barista Academy, on a continuous learning journey so they are empowered, continuing to learn new skills, passionate, and ultimately, retained within the business.
