DO GOOD THINGS
Helping the environment and benefiting society is fundamental to our purpose of community and coming together, it’s just part of our DNA.
Our customers and clients expect their choices to be sustainably and ethically sourced. We do too. Now is the time to educate, motivate and inspire positive change – it’s the right thing to do!
Our Specialist Sustainability team are doing so much to help our customers and teams care for our planet every day. From our suppliers to our recipes, from our packaging to our food waste, from energy reduction to supporting our local communities.
When it comes to our collective future, we don’t stand still. We do the right thing and look to lead the way as a force for change.
NET ZERO BY 2040
Not an empty promise, but a clear and realistic plan which is certified by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi). Reducing our carbon emissions footprint to zero is one of the most important things we can do to protect our collective future.
Taking Carbon Out of our Food
Menu decarbonisation:
The food we buy and serve is our biggest contributor to our environmental footprint, so is an area we take very seriously.
We use a carbon calculator tool when designing and writing our dish recipes, and our chefs are trained in low carbon ingredients with no compromise in quality or taste.
Go Less Waste
So much quality food goes to waste every day, we work with our site teams and clients to reduce wastage in many ways.
So much of our food today is taken away, and non-compostable and plastic packaging is doing huge damage to our world. We encourage customers to use crockery or bring their own containers where possible and we work with our packaging partners to find and use the best options available with the lowest impact on the environment.
Giving Back
Gather & Gather teams love to give back to the local communities where we are based. All our people can avail of one day each year to choose how they want to give back through volunteering for their own charitable cause.
In 2023 we published The Gathered Table Cookbook with all proceeds going to the Peter McVerry Trust to support the fantastic work they do with the homeless across Ireland. A fantastic publication featuring an array of recipes from well known chefs, bakers, food enthusiasts and bloggers taking inspiration from their memories of home. So good it has been shortlisted in the cookbook of the year category in both the An Post Book Awards and the Irish Food Writers Awards 2023.
Trusted Partners
We want to use our supply chain for good and to accelerate progress to a positive food system at scale. This means building strong relationships with suppliers, getting better data and transparency on where our food is coming from, ensuring we’ve got the basics right, and that we’re pursuing innovation with our suppliers.
